2014 Opportunities for Residents and Students

  • The CAGP is pleased to offer complimentary memberships to medical students, residents and geriatric psychiatry subspecialty residents in the membership category Member-in-Training (MIT)

  • The CAGP will be exploring partnerships with the Canadian
    Geriatrics Society to support the National Geriatric Interest Group

  • Reduced registration rates to attend the Annual scientific meeting will be held jointly with the Canadian Coalition for Seniors Mental Health (CCSMH) in Toronto, Ontario, from September 9-10, 2014, and will be themed Innovations in Seniors’ Mental Health Care: Insights from the Frontiers of Research and Service Delivery


  • Four (4) $500 travel bursaries for trainees, including medical students and residents, to attend the joint CAGP and CCSMH conference September 9-10, 2014, in Toronto, Ontario

  • Two (2) $500 bursaries for senior residents and geriatric psychiatry subspecialty residents to attend the National Review course from September 7-8 in Toronto, Ontario

  • Bursaries will be awarded in a lottery fashion to attendees who have registered by August 15, 2014

  • Opportunities will be posted on the Facebook page

Events and Networking Opportunities

  • CAGP Trainee Breakfast on Tuesday, September 9 at 7:30 am, which will include updates on the sub- specialization of geriatric psychiatry and training opportunities as well as an opportunity to meet Geriatric Psychiatry Program Directors from across Canada

  • CAGP Trainee social event will be held on the evening of
    Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at Donatello’s restaurant on Elm Street from 6:00-10:30 pm. It will provide an opportunity to meet and network with other trainees interested in geriatric psychiatry

  • An oral workshop will be presented to explore the results of the CAGP survey titled “Assessment of Residents’ Needs and Attitudes Towards Geriatric Psychiatry” followed by a panel discussion, including representation from the Canadian Geriatrics Society to brainstorm ideas of why trainees choose geriatric psychiatry and how to attract more trainees into the field of geriatrics to be held on September 9, 2014, from 3:45-5:15 pm
