1. Week One: Introduction to Mental Health

  •  What is “typical” aging
  • Stigma and discrimination
  • Current incidence / prevalence
  • 3 populations in late life

2. Week Two: Common Mental Illnesses in Late Life

  • Depression
  • Delirium
  • Dementia  - focus on BPSD      
  • Suicide Risk & Prevention
  • Anxiety
  • Severe and persistent mental illness in older adults
     

3. Week Three: Assessment Tools

4. Week Four: Evidence Informed Non-Pharmacological Interventions

5. Week Five: Resources for Healthcare providers

Instructor:   Kim Wilson, Exec Dir, Canadian Coalition for Seniors’ Mental Health.

Kimberley Wilson has been with the CCSMH since 2005 and has led the National Guidelines for Seniors’ Mental Health Implementation and Knowledge Translation Projects over the last several years.  Additionally, Kim is a member of the Seniors Advisory Committee at the Mental Health Commission of Canada and is leading a project funded by the Commission focusing on anti-stigma initiatives for seniors’ mental health. 

This workshop will be offered online and will only be offered if there is sufficient enrolment. You must register by midnight Wed Dec 15th in order to “attend” online.
