Further details may be requested from those whose abstracts are accepted. Selected abstracts will be published in the CAGP-CCSMH ASM Book of Abstracts and in a future issue of the Canadian Geriatrics Journal (www.cgjonline.ca).

We are excited to be heading to another sensational setting to learn, share, and network with our colleagues from across the country. This year’s theme is “Harnessing the Current: Innovation, Policy & Advancing Geriatric Mental Health.” Submissions that highlight any new or emerging topics, research, or programming are encouraged. Multidisciplinary perspectives and content geared toward trainees are welcome, as always. We invite you to participate and welcome abstract submissions from across the country and from all disciplines. Abstract Submission Guidelines
Information about Abstract Submissions
- All abstracts must be submitted through the CAGP-CCSMH abstract submission portal.
- We encourage abstract submissions in English or French.
- Submissions from pharmaceutical companies will not be accepted.
- The categories for abstract submissions include poster presentation, oral presentation, workshop, deep-dive presentation, thought forum, symposium, and clinical case presentation.
- Given that we only have limited spaces available in the program, the 2026 ASM Planning Committee may change the format of the presentation you submit to optimize the number of presentations possible. In many cases, we may accept your presentation in a poster format due to limited space. However, the poster session is a very important and appreciated part of our scientific program—it has left our attendees asking for more!
- All abstracts must be submitted in the standardized format irrespective of presentation preference and must consist of a title, background, methods, results, and conclusions.
- The maximum word count is 250 words
The abstract categories are defined as follows:
Clinical Case Presentation: A clinical case presentation is approximately 15 minutes in length (the exact time will be confirmed, but this presentation typically consists of an 11-minute talk followed by a 4-minute question-and-answer period). This presentation is intended for informative clinical cases. There should be maximal audience participation, interaction, and discussion. The clinical case must be supported by literature and evidence around the teaching and learning points.
Oral Presentation: An oral presentation is approximately 20 minutes in length (the exact time will be confirmed, but this presentation typically consists of an 15-minute talk followed by a 5-minute question and answer period).
- Junior Faculty Award Presentation: Oral presentations where the primary author is within the first five years of a faculty appointment may be considered for the Junior Faculty Award presentation. Finalist presentations will be judged during the 2026 ASM, and the winning recipient will receive a certificate, to be presented at the ASM award ceremony.
Symposium: A symposium is a presentation that consists of two or three separate talks around a similar theme and is 60-90 minutes in duration. To submit your symposium, fill in the required fields, including the overall session abstract and an abstract of no more than 250 words for each individual talk within the symposium.
Workshop: Workshops are 60–90 minute interactive sessions designed to provide hands-on learning experiences and allow attendees to explore specific topics in depth and develop practical skills and/or knowledge. Facilitators often use case studies, group activities, and discussions to engage participants actively. By participating in workshops, attendees can gain insight into best practices, as well as emerging and innovative approaches in their respective fields. Interactive workshops come in various formats, each designed to engage participants and foster collaboration.
Deep-Dive Presentation: A deep-dive presentation is 60 minutes in length, presented by an individual speaker. Deep-dives are suited to sessions offering an in-depth scholarly exploration of a topic with relevant literature review as it relates to 1. Research; 2. Clinical Practice; 3. Program Design, Delivery, and Innovation; and 4. Learning and Development.
NEW! Thought Forum (Interdisciplinary Dialogue Session): The Thought Forum is a 60–90-minute session designed to stimulate critical reflection, interdisciplinary dialogue, and meaningful exchange on complex issues in seniors’ mental health. A Thought Forum includes 3–5 contributors, ideally representing diverse disciplines, sectors, career stages, and/or lived experience perspectives.
Sessions will include a brief framing presentation followed by structured, facilitated discussions occupying at least 50% of the session, emphasizing audience participation, interdisciplinary exchange, and reflective debate. This format is particularly suited to topics where complexity, uncertainty, and diverse viewpoints enrich collective understanding and advance the shared mission of improving seniors’ mental health across Canada. Abstracts should include the central provocative question or thesis, rationale for the selected panel composition, and a clear plan for interactive engagement and inclusive dialogue.Poster Presentation: There will be dedicated poster sessions scheduled throughout the meeting, at which presenters will have the opportunity to interact with delegates. There will also be an award for Top Poster Presenter and our very popular Track Poster Session for trainees, which is a facilitated poster session allowing the presenter the opportunity to receive constructive feedback.

All submissions require three learning objectives. Key information about Royal College expectations for learning objectives can be found here. Please avoid verbs that are often used but are open to many interpretations (e.g., appreciate, have faith in, know, learn, understand, believe). Click here for a link to suggested verbs.
Instructions
- Abstract submissions for sessions (Clinical Case, Oral, Symposium, Workshop, Thought Forum or Deep-Dive Presentations) are due on April 8, 2026, by 11:59 p.m. EST.
- Poster Presentation submissions are due on May 31, 2026, by 11:59 p.m. EST.
- Abstract submissions will be accepted through the online submission platform only.
- Once you have completed the online submission, you will receive an immediate automated confirmation of receipt.
- All abstract submissions will be peer-reviewed.
- Please include the title, the three learning objectives, and the abstract text of no more than 250 words.
- Learning objectives must indicate what the participants will learn from the presentation in terms of knowledge, skills, or attitudes.
- If research results will not be ready by the time of submission, you must submit in a poster format.
- In keeping with accreditation requirements, a minimum of 25% of the presentation time must be allotted for audience discussion and participation.
- Session abstracts will receive an email notification of the 2026 ASM Planning Committee’s decision regarding your submission by June 6, 2026.
- Poster abstracts will receive an email notification of the 2026 ASM Planning Committee’s decision regarding your submission by the first week of July 2026.
- All applicants are responsible to register and pay in full to attend the conference.
- By submitting your abstract, you agree to have it published in the Canadian Geriatrics Journal.
Appel de résumés
La RSA 2026 se tiendra à Niagara Falls, en Ontario, du vendredi 16 octobre au samedi 17 octobre. C'est avec enthousiasme que nous nous rendons dans un autre cadre sensationnel pour apprendre, partager et travailler en réseau avec nos collègues de tout le pays.
Le thème de cette année est « S’appuyer sur l’élan actuel : innovation, politiques et avancement de la santé mentale gériatrique ». Les candidatures présentant des sujets, des recherches ou des programmes nouveaux ou émergents sont également encouragées. Comme d'habitude, les perspectives multidisciplinaires et les contenus destinés aux stagiaires sont les bienvenus.
Nous vous invitons à participer en grand nombre. Nous accueillons les soumissions de résumés provenant de toutes les disciplines ainsi que des quatre coins du pays. Nous espérons vous voir lors de cette réunion importante sur la santé mentale des personnes âgées au Canada.
